Gunn-Truscinski Duo: Bay Head
Steve Gunn has been a perennial favorite of mine for years now, especially as a morning breakfast companion or if I’ve got a long drive. Somehow Steve Gunn lives in Brooklyn, not deep in the plains of Montana, like I always imagine he does when I listen to his music. I somewhat prefer his catalogue from earliest to latest (especially Time Off) but honestly they’re all delightful, and you should definitely go see him live... he’s the most talented guitarist I’ve ever seen. I played a Steve Gunn album during a shoot one morning over the summer and someone who was very very nice on set but whose name I forgot (I’m sorry!) told me about the Gunn-Truscinski Duo. So we put on Bay Head (this album) and I was like waaaaaaah????!!? And ever since, all of the Gunn-Truscinski Duo albums have been in heavy rotation, and that shoot was a half-year ago. A little more psychedelic, a lot more experimental and ambling, these are long-form albums to get lost in.
